The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released an official statement following trilateral negotiations held in Lahore between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and the ICC.
The statement confirmed that the talks, held in a cordial atmosphere, centered on the T20 World Cup 2026 and the future of cricket in South Asia. The ICC expressed regret over Bangladesh’s non-participation in the upcoming tournament, describing the BCB as a valued Full Member and a key pillar of world cricket.

Importantly, the ICC assured that no penalties, sanctions, or restrictions of any kind—financial, administrative, or sporting—will be imposed on the BCB in relation to this matter. The statement clarified that Bangladesh retains the right to appeal to the ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee.
Demonstrating continued confidence in Bangladesh’s hosting capabilities, the ICC also decided to award the country an ICC event between 2028 and 2031, pending the fulfillment of standard hosting protocols and requirements.
