The United States government has issued an urgent advisory asking all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately due to growing security concerns in the country. The warning came after reports that a missile struck the United States Embassy compound in Baghdad. According to Iraqi security officials, the missile reportedly hit a helipad area inside the embassy complex and caused a fire on the roof of the building.
Officials in Washington say the security situation in Iraq has become increasingly dangerous. The US government believes that Iran-aligned militia groups operating in the region pose a serious threat to public safety. These groups have allegedly carried out attacks on American citizens, diplomatic facilities, and other locations connected to US interests.
China Opposes Any Attempt to Target Iran’s Supreme Leader
According to the advisory, several incidents have targeted US businesses and energy infrastructure operated by American companies. Hotels and locations commonly visited by foreign nationals have also reportedly been attacked in recent months. US authorities say there is also a risk of kidnapping, and individual Americans have previously been targeted by armed groups.
The statement further warns that these militia groups may also affect the ability of Iraqi authorities to respond quickly during emergencies. Because of this risk, the US government has raised its travel advisory for Iraq to Level 4, which is the highest security alert issued by the State Department.
American citizens who are currently in Iraq have been strongly advised to leave the country as soon as possible. The US government has also announced that it will help facilitate the departure of Americans who wish to leave the country safely.
