Lahore is preparing for the anticipated return of Basant, with the district administration requesting more than Rs. 1.017 billion in supplementary funding to manage the proposed three-day festival scheduled for March 12–14, 2027.
The requested budget is intended to support security arrangements, traffic management, emergency response services, cleanliness, and other essential preparations. Authorities are planning measures to manage crowds and help ensure public safety throughout the celebrations.
According to the reported allocations, Rs. 461.8 million has been requested for the Traffic Police, Rs. 200 million for the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), and Rs. 199.8 million for district emergency services. The funding request reflects the scale of the preparations being considered for the festival.

Plans also include establishing control rooms, monitoring rooftops, improving traffic flow, and taking action against banned kites and dangerous strings. These measures are intended to reduce risks associated with kite flying and help authorities respond quickly to emergencies.
Basant has long been associated with Lahore’s cultural identity, attracting attention for its colourful kites and festive atmosphere. However, safety concerns surrounding sharp strings, injuries, and accidents remain important issues for organisers and law enforcement agencies.
The proposed arrangements will require coordination between multiple departments. The final funding approval and implementation of safety measures will be important developments to watch as the festival dates approach.
