The Islamic Ideological Council of Pakistan has announced the recommended amounts for Fitrana, also known as Sadaqat al-Fitr, and Fidyah for the ongoing year. The announcement was made by the council’s chairman, Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi.
According to the announcement, the minimum monetary value for both Fitrana and Fidyah has been set at three hundred rupees per person. When calculated based on staple foods, the amount is approximately one thousand one hundred rupees per person if measured by wheat, or one thousand six hundred rupees if measured by dates or raisins.
Fitrana is an obligatory charity incumbent upon every Muslim who possesses the prescribed minimum wealth. It must be given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Fidyah is the compensation paid by those who are unable to fast due to a permanent, legitimate reason, such as chronic illness or old age, and involves feeding a needy person for each missed fast.
Biometric Deadline Extended for Pakistani Hajj Pilgrims
The council also reiterated the ruling for Kaffarah, which is the atonement required for intentionally breaking a fast without a valid excuse. The Kaffarah is to fast consecutively for sixty days, or, if unable to do so, to feed sixty poor people two full meals each.
This guidance is issued annually to help Muslims fulfill their religious duties correctly and ensure their charitable contributions meet the current standard for providing adequate support to those in need.
