Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has handed over 50 electric vehicles (EVs) to the Islamabad Police as part of efforts to introduce modern, safer, and more environmentally friendly policing in the federal capital.
The vehicles were handed over during a ceremony in Islamabad, where the Prime Minister presented the keys to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Police Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. Other federal ministers and senior officials also attended the event.
The new vehicles will be used by the Capital Patrol, a newly established force designed to support a safer, smarter, and greener Islamabad. The force will consist of 200 police personnel, with each patrol unit including both male and female officers. Motorcycle-riding personnel will also be deployed to improve response times and strengthen patrolling.

According to the briefing, Capital Patrol officers will be equipped with body cameras to improve transparency, monitoring, and accountability during police operations.
The introduction of electric vehicles is also expected to reduce fuel consumption and operating costs. Officials said the 50 EVs could save approximately Rs34 million per month in fuel expenses, with the cost of an individual vehicle expected to be recovered through fuel savings in around 10.5 months.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said protecting citizens and their property remains a top priority and emphasized the importance of equipping the Islamabad Police with modern technology and resources.
