The All Pakistan Kite Flying Association has clarified that there is no possibility of Basant celebrations resuming in Punjab in the coming months after Ramadan.
In a recent statement reported by Express News on February 16, 2026, the association addressed circulating rumors about a potential revival of the traditional spring festival. According to the association, there is currently no plan or approval to allow Basant festivities in the province.
Officials stated that the commercial stock of kites and kite-flying materials in Pakistan has effectively reached zero. They explained that due to strict regulations and prolonged restrictions, production and distribution networks linked to kite flying have largely shut down.
The association further confirmed that no processing or manufacturing activity is currently permitted, even under claims of producing “safe” kite materials. Authorities have maintained strict controls to prevent the use of hazardous strings and other materials that previously led to injuries and safety concerns.
Basant, once a vibrant cultural festival in Punjab—particularly in Lahore—was known for colorful kites filling the sky and large public gatherings. However, it has faced repeated bans over the years due to safety issues, including accidents caused by metal or chemically coated kite strings.
The association’s statement appears to rule out any immediate revival of the festival, at least for the next few months. While discussions occasionally surface about bringing back Basant in a regulated and safer format, officials emphasized that no formal approvals or preparations are currently underway.
For now, residents hoping for a post-Ramadan return of the spring festival will have to wait, as the regulatory and commercial environment does not support its organization in the near future.
