50,000 Electric Bikes

The Punjab government has announced a major initiative for students and unemployed youth, planning to provide 50,000 electric bikes and 5,000 electric taxis on interest-free financing in the upcoming financial year. The move is aimed at promoting affordable transport while also creating new employment opportunities across the province.

According to government sources, the proposal for interest-free electric bikes and e-taxis has been approved for inclusion in the next provincial budget. The initiative is designed to support young people by offering them low-cost, eco-friendly transportation options that can also be used to generate income.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated that the e-taxi scheme will include easy installment plans and interest-free financing facilities for eligible applicants. He added that additional benefits such as registration support and other incentives will also be provided to make the scheme more accessible.

Officials said the program reflects the government’s broader goal of empowering youth by integrating them into economic activity. By enabling access to electric vehicles, the scheme is expected to open doors to self-employment opportunities in ride-hailing and transport services.

The government also emphasized the environmental benefits of the project, noting that increased use of electric transport will help reduce air pollution in major cities. Authorities believe this initiative will not only improve mobility for young people but also contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable urban transport system in Punjab.
