Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced the country’s first successful offshore gas discovery, marking a major milestone for Pakistan’s energy and exploration sector.
The discovery was made through the Dolphin X-1 well in the Sarani Block of Sujawal, where significant new hydrocarbon reserves have reportedly been identified.
The breakthrough could strengthen Pakistan’s efforts to explore its offshore energy potential and reduce reliance on imported fuel and gas. It may also encourage further investment and exploration activity in the country’s shallow offshore areas.
The discovery is being viewed as an important development for Pakistan’s energy security, particularly as the country continues to face high import costs and growing domestic energy demand.
Pakistan Resumes Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration After Two Decades
If commercially developed, the newly discovered reserves could contribute to domestic gas supplies and potentially reduce pressure on the country’s energy import bill.
The successful drilling of Dolphin X-1 could also pave the way for additional offshore exploration and future discoveries, opening a new chapter in Pakistan’s search for indigenous oil and gas resources.
