The government has eased the petrol relief scheme by removing the minimum five-litre purchase requirement for motorists seeking the subsidy.
Under the updated rules, owners of motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws can receive a Rs500 weekly petrol discount against a single token. Four tokens will be available each month, allowing eligible users to receive the relief on a weekly basis.
The government has also expanded the scheme’s eligibility to include motorcycles and rickshaws that were registered from January 1, 2006. The change could allow more older vehicles and their owners to benefit from the fuel relief.

For cars with engines up to 800cc, the existing Rs100-per-litre discount on eligible petrol purchases will continue under the scheme.
The changes come as higher global oil prices continue to put pressure on fuel costs and household budgets in Pakistan. For many motorcycle and rickshaw users, even a small reduction in weekly fuel expenses can make a difference to their regular travel and work-related costs.
Removing the five-litre minimum also makes the relief mechanism more flexible for motorists who may not need to purchase five litres at a time.
The updated rules are aimed at making the fuel support more accessible while continuing to provide targeted relief to motorcycle, rickshaw and small-car owners.
