Maryam Nawaz Launches Punjab’s Biggest Ever Ration Card Scheme – 1.25M Families to Benefit

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a big welfare program that will ensure food security for more than 1.25 million families in Punjab. The Ration Card Scheme drive, scheduled for May 1st, represents one of the largest social protection programs launched in the province.

Direct Assistance for Struggling Families

The newly issued ration cards will help vulnerable households manage their monthly food expenses more effectively. “This initiative will bring some relief to kitchen budgets,” CM Maryam stated during her address in Lahore. The program specifically targets low-income families who have been hardest hit by recent economic challenges.

Special Focus on Disabled Community

The Chief Minister emphasized inclusive policies, urging persons with disabilities to register through the Social Welfare Department’s portal. “I understand the struggles of special needs families,” she said, highlighting her administration’s commitment to supporting marginalized groups through direct assistance programs.

Expanding Social Welfare Network

This announcement comes alongside other ongoing welfare projects:
– The successful ‘Dhee Rani’ program that facilitated weddings for 2,000 underprivileged girls
– The ‘Apna Ghar’ housing scheme that has already constructed 30,000+ homes
– A new land distribution initiative offering free 3-marla plots to landless citizens

New Approach to Governance

CM Maryam outlined her administration’s people-centric philosophy: “The government should reach people’s doorsteps, not wait for them to come to offices.” She praised her team, particularly Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt and his secretaries, for their efforts in implementing these welfare programs efficiently.

Building on Existing Successes

The Punjab government has already made significant progress in public service delivery, having addressed the concerns of 3 million citizens through its proactive outreach Ration Card Scheme campaigns. This Ration Card Scheme  represents the latest effort to translate political promises into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.
