No More Cash at Passport Offices: Pakistan to Shift Fully to Digital Passport Fee Payments from July 1

In a major step toward digital transformation, Pakistan will end the cash fee payment system at all passport offices from July 1, 2026. Citizens applying for passports will now be required to pay their fees through digital methods only.

The decision was announced during a meeting of zonal heads chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Officials said the move is aimed at making passport services faster, more transparent, and more convenient for the public.

Under the new system, passport fees will be accepted only through QR code-based digital payments. This means applicants will no longer be able to pay passport fees in cash at passport offices across the country.

Authorities also revealed that a new Passport Mobile App will soon be launched. The app will allow Pakistanis living both inside and outside the country to submit passport applications from the comfort of their homes. This digital facility is expected to reduce waiting times and make the application process much easier.

Another important feature of the upcoming system is doorstep passport delivery. Applicants will be able to receive their passports at their homes after successful processing, eliminating the need for multiple visits to passport offices.

Officials further announced that the Directorate General Immigration and Passports will gradually move to issuing only e-passports in the future. However, existing Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) will remain fully valid and acceptable until their expiry dates.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to modernize public services and encourage digital payments across Pakistan. Citizens are advised to familiarize themselves with digital payment methods before the new policy takes effect.

The shift is expected to improve efficiency, reduce paperwork, and provide a more secure and user-friendly experience for passport applicants nationwide.
