Pakistan and Kuwait are reportedly holding early-stage discussions on expanding their defence cooperation as part of broader talks that also include energy collaboration and investment opportunities, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
The proposed agreement is said to build on the existing defence partnership between the two countries, which has focused on military training and joint exercises since 2023. Under the expanded framework, Kuwait is reportedly seeking stronger security cooperation similar to Pakistan’s defence arrangement with Saudi Arabia.
According to sources, the proposal could include a greater Pakistani military presence, enhanced defence coordination, joint exercises, and cooperation in areas such as air defence, drones, and other military capabilities. However, officials say the negotiations remain in the preliminary stages, and no final agreement has been reached.

The discussions come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly between the United States and Iran, which may influence the pace and outcome of the negotiations. Analysts believe any expanded defence commitment could have significant regional implications, especially as Pakistan has also been playing a diplomatic role in encouraging dialogue and de-escalation.
In addition to security cooperation, both countries are exploring ways to strengthen collaboration in the energy sector and attract greater Kuwaiti investment into Pakistan. If finalized, the agreement could further deepen bilateral relations while expanding economic and strategic cooperation between Islamabad and Kuwait.
Officials from both sides have not yet announced any formal timeline for concluding the negotiations.
