In a bold move blending culture with commerce, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan brought a slice of Pakistan to the Pakistan-Belarus Business Forum 2024—a stunning, handcrafted rickshaw. The vibrant two-seater, adorned with intricate traditional designs, became an instant crowd-puller, capturing the attention of Belarusian Energy Minister Alexey Kushnarenko.

In a lighthearted moment that stole the spotlight, Minister Kushnarenko hopped into the rickshaw, marveling at its craftsmanship and comfort. The exchange wasn’t just cultural—it carried economic undertones. Jam Kamal seized the moment to pitch exporting these iconic vehicles to Belarus, emphasizing their fusion of artistry and functionality. Kushnarenko’s enthusiasm underscored the potential for unique trade avenues between the two nations.

Pakistan’s handicraft industry is renowned for its exceptional artisanship, blending heritage with creativity to produce a wide array of products, from textiles and ceramics to woodwork and metal crafts. These items are not just cultural artifacts but a testament to centuries-old traditions and skills passed down through generations. With a global push for sustainable and handmade goods, Pakistan’s artisans are gaining international recognition, making cultural exports like the handcrafted rickshaw an exciting opportunity to promote “Made in Pakistan” on a global scale.

The country’s trade potential extends far beyond handicrafts. As a growing hub for textiles, leather goods, and agriculture, Pakistan has been actively exploring new markets to expand its export base. The forum’s rickshaw moment highlights a creative approach to diversifying trade ties, offering not just products but also cultural narratives. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader goal of strengthening economic diplomacy, tapping into niche markets, and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.

The showcase added flair to an already high-stakes diplomatic visit led by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. Accompanied by a 68-member delegation, the president is in Pakistan on a three-day mission to deepen bilateral ties. Discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are set to span diverse sectors, from energy and transportation to trade and military cooperation.

According to the Foreign Office, the visit is poised to deliver significant outcomes, with agreements and MoUs expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration. The delegation includes Belarusian ministers overseeing justice, natural resources, emergency situations, and military industry, alongside 43 top business leaders.

The rickshaw moment, however, stood out as a testament to the creative ways nations can bridge cultural divides while unlocking economic opportunities. As Belarus eyes Pakistani craftsmanship, this collaboration might just rev up a new chapter in bilateral trade.
