Pakistani travelers faced one of the highest UK and Schengen visa rejection rates in 2025, resulting in billions of rupees in financial losses. According to newly released visa data, a total of 112,387 short-term visa applications submitted by Pakistani nationals were rejected by the United Kingdom and Schengen countries, making it one of the toughest years for Pakistani applicants.
The United Kingdom rejected around 72,000 visitor visa applications from Pakistan, giving Pakistani applicants a 44% refusal rate. This was the second-highest rejection rate among the UK’s 20 largest visitor visa applicant nationalities. Only Bangladesh recorded a higher refusal rate during the same period.
Meanwhile, Schengen member countries rejected 40,199 visa applications from Pakistani citizens, with an overall refusal rate of approximately 46%. This means nearly one out of every two Pakistani applicants failed to secure a short-term visa for Europe or the UK.
The financial impact has also been significant. Pakistani applicants collectively lost an estimated €14.35 million (around $16.39 million or Rs. 4.56 billion) in non-refundable visa application fees. Since visa processing fees are generally not refunded after a rejection, thousands of families suffered direct financial losses despite receiving no visa.

In addition to application fees, many applicants also spent money on travel insurance, document translation, appointment bookings, courier services, and visa consultancy charges, increasing the overall cost of unsuccessful applications.
Experts say several factors contribute to the high rejection rates, including incomplete documentation, insufficient proof of income, concerns about overstaying visas, and Pakistan’s relatively weak passport ranking. These issues often result in stricter scrutiny during the visa assessment process.
The latest figures highlight the growing challenges faced by Pakistani travelers seeking international mobility. Many experts recommend that applicants carefully prepare their documents, provide strong financial evidence, and ensure all visa requirements are fully met to improve their chances of approval.
