Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a series of major development projects for Balochistan, including the construction of the Rs. 300 billion Karachi–Chaman Expressway, a landmark infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity, road safety, and economic growth across the province.
The project will upgrade the existing N-25 Karachi–Chaman Highway into a modern dual carriageway, significantly reducing travel time while improving the movement of goods and passengers. The expressway is expected to strengthen trade links between Karachi, Quetta, Chaman, and neighboring regions, making it an important transport corridor for both domestic and regional commerce. According to the prime minister, the project is scheduled for completion within the next two years.
In addition to the highway upgrade, the government announced a Rs. 75 billion initiative to convert approximately 27,000 agricultural tube wells in Balochistan to solar power. The transition is expected to lower energy costs for farmers, improve irrigation efficiency, and promote the use of clean, renewable energy in the agriculture sector.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investment in education, water supply schemes, healthcare, and other public infrastructure across the province. Officials said these projects are designed to improve living standards, create employment opportunities, and support long-term economic development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that balanced national development remains a top priority and pledged continued federal support for Balochistan. He said the new initiatives would help unlock the province’s economic potential, strengthen regional connectivity, and provide better public services while contributing to sustainable growth and prosperity.
