Punjab Ends Fuel-Saving Measures, Issues New Timings for Shops, Restaurants and Markets

Fuel-Saving

The Punjab government has reportedly ended its fuel-saving and additional austerity measures with immediate effect, according to a new notification shared by DTE Punjab DSD.

Under the updated decision, new closing timings have been announced for markets, shops, and other businesses across the province. The aim of these changes is to regulate business hours while maintaining public convenience and economic activity.

According to the notification, shops, markets, general stores, departmental stores, and shopping malls will now close at 9:00 PM. This rule will apply to all major retail businesses in urban and rural areas.

Restaurants, cafes, fruit shops, vegetable vendors, grocery stores, ration shops, and other food outlets have been given extended time and will be allowed to remain open until 11:00 PM. Authorities say this decision will help support daily customers and food-related businesses.

Wedding halls, marquees, and event venues will be required to close by 10:00 PM. Officials have stated that these timings are being set to ensure proper management of events while avoiding unnecessary late-night activity.

However, some services have been exempted from these restrictions. Bakeries, tandoors, milk shops, gyms, and sports-related shops will not fall under the new closing time limits and will continue operating under their normal schedules.

The government has said that these instructions are part of a revised policy and all shopkeepers and business owners are expected to follow the new timings strictly. Authorities may take action against those who violate the rules.

Overall, the new notification brings a clear structure for business hours across Punjab. It is expected to help organize commercial activity while still allowing essential services and food-related businesses to operate for longer hours.
