Pakistani-American Ali Sheikhani has overcome significant challenges to secure a highly sought-after constable position in Fort Bend County, Houston, Texas.
The race was an exciting showdown between two American-Pakistani police officers who enjoy widespread respect and strong support within their respective communities.
In Precinct 3, a total of 76,477 votes were cast. Republican Sheikhani garnered 39,936 votes, or 52.22%, while his Democratic opponent, Nabil Shike, earned 36,541 votes, or 47.78%.
Two key factors played a pivotal role in Ali Sheikhani’s victory. First, he ran an extensive and vigorous campaign, effectively connecting with the public. Additionally, Sheikhani benefited from the decision of a Democratic candidate, Taral Patel, to remain in the race despite facing serious allegations. Patel, who ran for county commissioner in the same precinct, lost his bid, which ultimately had a negative impact on other Democratic candidates, including Shike.
In the county commissioner race, incumbent Republican Andy Meyers secured 44,271 votes, while Patel received just 30,927 votes. Despite considerable pressure to withdraw, Patel remained steadfast in his campaign, and according to a Democratic leader from the precinct, Sheikhani capitalized on the difficult political environment for Democrats.

Sheikhani emphasized his commitment to work across party lines, pledging to fulfill his campaign promises, which include:
– Increasing the number of patrol officers in local neighborhoods
– Collaborating with the county to secure funding for essential tools and resources for law enforcement
– Ensuring quicker response times for greater public safety
– Enhancing school security by adding patrol officers to school zones
In an interview with Geo News, Ali Sheikhani expressed his readiness to serve with integrity and dedication, promising to bring positive change to the community.
In the United States, constables function as independent law enforcement officers tasked with enforcing both criminal and civil laws, making arrests, and conducting investigations. They also serve legal documents, such as warrants, and may work at polling stations on election day.
Meanwhile, Nabil Shike, Sheikhani’s Democratic opponent, is preparing for another election next year. Recently graduating as a lawyer, Shike will soon take an oath administered by Rabeea Collier, another American Pakistani.
