Pakistan’s spinner Noman Ali has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October 2024, beating out competition from South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner.
The 37-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler was instrumental in Pakistan’s thrilling 2-1 Test series victory against England on home turf.
Noman’s stellar performances throughout the series saw him claim 20 wickets at an impressive average of 13.85, securing Pakistan’s first home Test series win since 2021.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award,” Noman said in a statement.
“I am incredibly thankful to my teammates for their support during this historic home Test series win against England. Wins like these are always special for the team and the country.”
Noman’s brilliance was evident in two standout Test performances in October.
He ended with match figures of 11/147 and 9/130, as Pakistan rebounded from a loss in the first Test to break a three-year drought for a home Test series win.
In the second Test, defending a target of 297, he achieved his career-best figures of 8/46, decimating England’s batting order to clinch victory for Pakistan.
During the series-deciding third Test in Rawalpindi, Noman Ali made a vital contribution with the bat, scoring a resilient 45 runs at number nine, giving Pakistan a 77-run lead in the first innings.
He then followed up with a match-winning six-wicket haul, bowling England out for just 112, sealing the series with a commanding nine-wicket win.
Noman is the first Pakistani male cricketer to earn the ICC Player of the Month accolade since Babar Azam’s win in August 2023.
