The government is planning to establish a 6,000-acre Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) as part of efforts to promote export-led economic growth.
The announcement was made by Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum during a consultative session with stakeholders. The meeting was hosted by FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh and chaired by Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul.

Officials emphasized that achieving sustainable export growth requires close coordination between policymakers and the business community. The proposed EPZ is expected to attract investment, enhance industrial activity, and increase exports by providing a dedicated zone for export-oriented industries.
During the session, participants highlighted that while Pakistani exporters remain resilient, they continue to face challenges such as high business costs, energy shortages, limited access to financing, and the need to meet international compliance standards.
The planned EPZ at Pakistan Steel Mills is seen as a strategic step to address these challenges and strengthen Pakistan’s export sector.
