Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to introduce a strategic wheat reserve policy under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Under this new policy, the government will procure 30 lakh metric tons of wheat from Punjab’s farmers at the rate of Rs 3,500 per maund this year. The initiative aims to ensure fair support prices for farmers while strengthening food security in the province.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction that 35 domestic and international companies have successfully prequalified for participation in the project. She termed it a major step toward modernizing wheat procurement, ensuring transparency, and building sustainable strategic reserves for the future.
