Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation in a detailed speech announcing significant reductions in fuel price, aimed at providing relief to the public and easing inflationary pressure across the country. The government confirmed a 12-rupee reduction in petrol prices and a 135-rupee per liter cut in diesel prices, marking one of the most notable fuel price adjustments in recent months.
Under the new rates, petrol will now be available at 366 rupees per liter, down from 378 rupees, while diesel will drop to 385 rupees per liter from 520 rupees. The Prime Minister explained that this decision reflects the government’s commitment to passing on the benefits of declining international oil prices directly to the people of Pakistan.
He also highlighted that earlier reductions had already been implemented, including an 80-rupee cut in petrol prices. In addition to fuel price relief, the Prime Minister confirmed that subsidies for motorcycles, public transport, and goods-carrying vehicles will continue without interruption. These subsidies are designed to support low-income groups, including farmers and laborers across all provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. According to official statements, this transport support program was developed in consultation with provincial governments to ensure broad-based relief.
During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also referred to the broader international situation, noting that tensions in the Gulf region have eased and that discussions are now focused on peace rather than conflict.
