Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set July 2026 as the deadline for completing 27 new Sahulat (convenience) markets across the province, aiming to improve access to affordable goods for the public.
The announcement was made during a meeting in Lahore, where officials briefed her on the progress of the project. In addition to the main markets, the government also plans to establish 13 “Sahulat on-the-go” markets in various districts to expand outreach and convenience.
According to the briefing, the initiative is expected to create around 1,300 new business opportunities and generate more than 600 direct jobs. Officials added that over 90 million people are likely to benefit from these markets annually.

To support shopkeepers, the government will provide free electricity and sanitation facilities, reducing operational costs and encouraging small businesses to grow. It was also shared that approximately Rs53 million will be saved each year on security expenses through a centralized CCTV monitoring system.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the purpose of these markets is to offer quality products at affordable prices in a clean, organized, and family-friendly environment. She directed authorities to ensure timely completion of the project and maintain high standards in all facilities.
The Sahulat markets are part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to support small businesses, improve urban infrastructure, and provide relief to citizens facing rising living costs.
