Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has announced that the Punjab Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will be presented on June 16. He explained that the provincial budget was delayed due to the late presentation of the federal budget.
Speaking about the upcoming budget, the finance minister said that providing relief to the public is a key priority of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He emphasized that the provincial government is working to prepare a people-friendly budget that addresses public needs while maintaining financial discipline.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that pre-budget discussions have already begun in the Punjab Assembly. He added that representatives from all major sectors of the economy were invited to participate in pre-budget conferences to provide recommendations and feedback.
The minister highlighted several measures taken by the Punjab government to control expenditures and improve financial management. He noted that last year, the government allocated 25 billion rupees for flood rehabilitation and recovery programs to support affected communities.

He also revealed that Punjab Assembly members are contributing to austerity efforts through a 25 percent deduction from their salaries. In addition, government officers are contributing between 2 and 3 percent of their salaries as part of a cost-saving campaign.
Another significant measure mentioned was a 50 percent reduction in fuel expenses across government departments. According to the minister, these steps reflect the government’s commitment to responsible spending and efficient use of public resources.
The upcoming budget is expected to focus on development, public welfare, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth while maintaining fiscal discipline.
