The Punjab government has launched five dedicated Speedo buses for women on Lahore’s Metro Bus Service as part of its efforts to improve passenger safety and reduce overcrowding during peak commuting hours.
According to the Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department, the women-only buses have been temporarily deployed on the Metro Bus corridor to provide female passengers with a safer, more comfortable, and harassment-free travel experience. The initiative comes in response to growing concerns about overcrowding and the challenges faced by women while using public transport.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the decision was taken under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure women can travel with greater confidence and peace of mind. He emphasized that protecting women from harassment and improving the quality of public transport remain among the provincial government’s top priorities.

The minister explained that the current deployment of Speedo buses is a temporary arrangement to meet immediate demand. In the long term, the Punjab government plans to purchase new Metro buses that will be permanently reserved for women, further strengthening safe and inclusive public transportation.
Authorities are also exploring additional measures to enhance security and convenience across Punjab’s public transport network, including better monitoring systems and improved passenger facilities.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to creating a more accessible, secure, and dignified commuting environment for women while encouraging greater use of public transportation in Lahore.
