Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi has called for greater development efforts across Karachi, saying the city needs far more infrastructure projects to meet the expectations of its residents.
Speaking during the Fawad Alam Show, Afridi expressed concern over the slow pace of ongoing development work in several parts of the city. He pointed out that major areas such as SITE Area and University Road have remained under construction for a long time, causing inconvenience to commuters and businesses.
Afridi acknowledged that the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project is a positive initiative and praised the Sindh government for its efforts in completing the important roadway. However, he emphasized that a city as large and economically significant as Karachi requires many more development projects beyond one or two major schemes.

He said that improving roads, public infrastructure, and civic facilities is essential to addressing the city’s long-standing challenges. According to Afridi, sustainable progress can only be achieved when development reaches all parts of Karachi, making daily life easier for millions of residents.
The former cricketer also stressed that governments should focus on practical performance and visible improvements that directly benefit the public. He added that people will be satisfied when they see consistent progress through completed projects rather than prolonged construction work.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and commercial hub, continues to face infrastructure challenges despite ongoing development initiatives.
