A team of innovative students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has created a revolutionary pair of smart gloves designed to dismantle communication barriers for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. The gloves are equipped with flexible sensors and advanced artificial intelligence that can instantly translate sign language gestures into audible, spoken words.
The technology works by using a network of sensitive, flexible sensors sewn into the fabric of the gloves. These sensors meticulously track the complex hand shapes, finger movements, and orientations that constitute American Sign Language (ASL). This data is then processed in real-time by a sophisticated AI algorithm, which accurately identifies the signs and converts them into clear, synthetic speech played through a smartphone or a small built-in speaker.
