The government has approved a significant increase in the fee for obtaining a death certificate, with the revised charges set to take effect from August 1.
Under the new fee schedule, the cost of issuing a death certificate will rise from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,200, representing a fourfold increase. All applications submitted on or after the effective date will be processed under the updated fee structure.
A death certificate is an essential legal document required for various official purposes, including inheritance claims, pension and insurance settlements, bank account closures, property transfers, and other administrative and legal procedures. Applicants seeking this document after August 1 will need to pay the revised amount during the application process.

Authorities have advised citizens to take note of the new fee schedule and ensure they are aware of the updated charges before submitting their applications. Those planning to apply before the implementation date may still be eligible to pay the existing fee of Rs. 300, subject to the applicable rules and processing timelines.
The revised fee is part of the government’s updated schedule for public service charges. While the authorities have announced the new pricing, citizens are encouraged to check with their local registration offices for any additional requirements or procedural updates before applying.
Residents requiring a death certificate are advised to prepare the necessary supporting documents in advance to avoid delays and ensure a smooth application process once the revised fee comes into effect.
