Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Rs6.6 billion technical supplementary grant for the purchase of 30 bulletproof vehicles ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which Pakistan is scheduled to host in September 2027.
The decision was made during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The vehicles are planned to be used for the secure transportation of foreign heads of state and other high-level dignitaries attending the international summit.
The Cabinet Division had initially requested Rs12.6 billion for more than 50 bulletproof vehicles. However, after reviewing the proposal and holding detailed discussions, the ECC reduced the allocation and approved funding for 30 vehicles instead.

The committee has also directed the Cabinet Division to carry out a detailed assessment of its requirements before requesting additional funds for more vehicles. This move is aimed at ensuring that future spending is based on clearly identified needs.
Hosting the SCO summit will bring senior officials and leaders from several member and partner countries to Pakistan, making security and logistical arrangements a major priority. The government is expected to make extensive preparations for the event as the summit approaches.
The approved funding highlights the scale of preparations already underway for Pakistan’s upcoming role as host of the important regional forum.
