The federal government has ended the four-year ban on new gas connections, announcing that households will now receive re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) instead of domestic natural gas.
The decision was confirmed by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik along with Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. They said the federal cabinet approved this step on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who wanted to provide relief to people struggling with energy issues.
According to Malik, since 2021 many families had no choice but to rely on LPG cylinders, which not only increased household expenses but also raised safety concerns. With the new decision, people will now get RLNG, which, although costlier than local natural gas, is still far cheaper than LPG.
The government also confirmed that pending applications for gas connections will soon be cleared, making the process easier for thousands of consumers waiting for years.
This policy shift is expected to reduce financial pressure on households and give them a safer, more reliable energy option after a long wait.
