Mari Energies Limited has announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves at the Spinwam-1 well located in Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The discovery was officially communicated by the company in a letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.
In the letter, the company referenced a previous communication, dated March 17, 2025, in which they confirmed the discovery of gas and condensate at the Spinwam-1 exploration well, situated in the Waziristan Block. The gas was sourced from the Kawagarh Formation, a key geological layer known for its potential in hydrocarbons.
The well has shown promising results, producing 23.85 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, along with approximately 122 barrels per day (bbl/day) of condensate. This production was recorded at a 32/64″ choke with a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 4,042 psi. The company further added that additional testing of other targeted formations is currently underway to fully assess the well’s potential and its long-term productivity.
Mari Energies, formerly known as Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI), operates the Waziristan Block, holding a 55% working interest. The other partners in this joint venture include Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), with a 35% stake, and Orient Petroleum Inc., which holds a 10% interest in the project.
This discovery marks a significant development for the region’s energy sector, as it could play a crucial role in boosting Pakistan’s domestic energy production and potentially reducing reliance on imported energy. It also highlights the growing importance of exploration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has previously seen limited oil and gas activity.
Further details on the commercial viability and future production forecasts will likely emerge as testing continues.
