The army has demonstrated exceptional bravery in conflicts, particularly in wars with neighboring country, gulf war, where it played a pivotal role in defending the country, and Islamic world. Its presence extends beyond military engagements, contributing significantly to civil infrastructure, disaster management, and social development. The Pakistan Army is a symbol of strength and pride for millions of Pakistanis, embodying resilience and professionalism in the face of challenges. Under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, the Pakistan Army has further strengthened its commitment to serving the nation. General Munir, a great officer with extensive experience, assumed command in November 2022 and brought a vision of accountability, transparency, and modernization. One of his primary focuses has been ensuring that the military remains apolitical, adhering strictly to its constitutional role. This stance has fostered public trust and reinforced the institution’s credibility during a politically turbulent time. The army chief has repeatedly emphasized the importance of democracy, urging political leaders to work towards national unity and economic stability.
In November 2024, the Chief emphasized the nation’s role in fostering global peace and stability during the Margalla Dialogue, an annual conference focused on national and international issues. Addressing the event, General Munir highlighted the threats posed by violent non-state actors and disinformation, which he identified as significant challenges to global harmony. He restated Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring that Afghan soil is not used for militancy against Pakistan, urging the Afghan government to adopt strict measures in this regard. He also addressed the importance of regulating freedom of expression to prevent the spread of hate speech and disinformation, noting their destabilizing impact on political and social structures. With a youthful population and rich natural resources, General Munir expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential as a global agricultural producer and a hub for trade and freelancing. Additionally, the Army Chief’s active participation in the multinational “Indus Shield 2024” aerial exercise underscored Pakistan’s collaboration with countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt to strengthen defense ties and promote mutual understanding. These engagements highlight the evolving role of Pakistan’s military in addressing both domestic challenges and broader global issues.
In recent months, the Pakistan Army has been actively involved in facilitating free and fair elections, a critical step toward strengthening democratic governance. In my opinion, and what I have observed and experienced through recent years, I can surely say that the Pakistan Army’s role in promoting national unity cannot be overstated. General Munir’s inclusive approach has further reinforced this role, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose among Pakistanis. His efforts to bridge divides and promote dialogue have been instrumental in creating a more cohesive and resilient nation. Despite the immense challenges it faces, the Pakistan Army remains a pillar of strength and stability for the country. Under General Asim’s leadership, it has reaffirmed its commitment to serving the nation with integrity and dedication.
