The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has announced a countrywide shutdown of petrol pumps starting from March 27 if their demands are not accepted by the government. The announcement has raised concerns about a possible disruption in fuel supply across Pakistan if negotiations between the dealers and authorities fail.
According to the association’s Senior Vice Chairman, Tariq Hassan, petrol dealers are currently facing serious financial pressure due to extremely low profit margins. He explained that the current margin provided to dealers is not enough to cover operating expenses, including staff salaries, electricity bills, and maintenance costs. Because of this situation, many petrol pump owners are struggling to continue their business.
Tariq Hassan also demanded that the government conduct proper investigations into oil marketing companies. He said that transparency is necessary in the fuel supply chain to ensure that dealers are treated fairly and that the system works smoothly for all stakeholders.
The association has warned that if their concerns are ignored, dealers across the country will shut down petrol pumps as a form of protest. Such a move could create significant inconvenience for the public, especially for transportation, logistics, and daily commuters who rely on fuel availability.
Petroleum dealers have urged the government to start meaningful discussions and find a solution before the announced date. They believe that resolving the issue through dialogue is important to avoid disruption in fuel supply and protect both the interests of dealers and the convenience of the public.
