Punjab is preparing to take its electric Bus network beyond major cities and expand it to the tehsil level from January 2027, following approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The provincial government has set an ambitious target of having 3,000 electric buses operating across Punjab by June 2027. Hundreds of buses are planned for districts including Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Rawalpindi, giving more communities access to modern and environmentally friendly public transport.
At present, 612 electric buses are operational across different districts and are reportedly serving hundreds of thousands of passengers every day. Another 192 buses are expected to become operational soon, while further allocations are planned for additional districts.
The expansion could make daily commuting easier for students, workers, and families, particularly in areas where affordable and reliable public transportation options remain limited. Electric buses could also help reduce fuel consumption and contribute to cleaner urban environments.

Meanwhile, the restoration of 125 Lahore Metro Bus stations is reportedly nearing completion, which could further improve public transport facilities in the provincial capital.
If the government achieves its target of 3,000 electric buses, Punjab could see a major transformation in its public transportation system over the next year.
