Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a high-level Pakistani delegation to Tehran on July 3, 2026, to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, at the invitation of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other senior government officials.
During the solemn ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Iranian leader, acknowledging his decades of leadership and his significant contributions to the Muslim world. He described Ayatollah Khamenei as a leader who guided the Iranian nation with wisdom, vision, and steadfastness throughout his tenure.

The prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s deepest condolences and expressed full solidarity with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and the people of Iran during this period of national mourning. He prayed for the forgiveness of the departed leader and for strength and patience for the Iranian nation.
The funeral ceremony was also attended by a parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, along with members of parliament and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Following the funeral, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed Tehran for Istanbul, Türkiye, to begin his official bilateral visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan-Türkiye relations. The visit includes high-level meetings with Turkish leadership and participation in a business conference focused on expanding trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
