Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to inaugurate the T-Chowk Flyer, also known as the Iqbal Chowk Flyover, on Thursday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced.
According to Mohsin Naqvi, the prime minister first inspected the project site on September 12, after which construction officially began on September 19. The project was completed on December 5, marking an impressive turnaround time. He clarified that the inauguration was delayed only due to the prime minister’s busy schedule, not because of any construction delay.
Naqvi praised the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the project team for completing the flyover in just 77 days, calling it a record achievement. He revealed that a civil engineer remained present at the site at all times, supervising round-the-clock work to ensure timely completion.
Highlighting Islamabad’s urban challenges, the interior minister noted that the city’s population has increased nearly fourfold over the past 20 years, while road and civic infrastructure failed to grow at the same pace. He said the government is now focused on clearing long-pending development gaps while also planning for the city’s needs over the next two decades.
Reducing traffic congestion at major junctions, including the Faizabad Interchange, and addressing drinking water shortages were listed among the government’s top priorities.

Naqvi also shared details of a broader development roadmap titled Vision 2027, which will be implemented under the Interior Ministry. A detailed briefing is expected on January 1 or 2, during which around 130 development projects will be announced. These projects will include new and upgraded roads, graveyards, hotels, recreational facilities, and other civic infrastructure.
Emphasizing the principles of quality, low cost, and speed, Naqvi said the Iqbal Chowk Flyover was completed at a cost of around Rs. 1 billion, with noticeable savings compared to similar projects. He added that the same project team is currently working on other major initiatives, including large hospitals, with more announcements expected soon.
Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi, along with Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, paid a late-night visit to the flyover to inspect construction quality and review inauguration arrangements. He also appreciated the CDA for planting over 3,000 trees and shrubs around the project area to enhance the city’s environment.
