The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 49 million under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026–27 for the proposed Rawalpindi–Murree Glass Train project, marking the first step toward developing a modern rail-based tourism initiative.
The project, estimated to cost Rs. 117 billion, aims to transform travel between Rawalpindi and Murree by introducing a scenic glass-roof train offering panoramic views of the region’s picturesque landscapes. The initiative is expected to improve regional connectivity while enhancing the travel experience for tourists visiting one of Pakistan’s most popular hill destinations.
According to officials, the proposed glass train is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote tourism, modernize transport infrastructure, and encourage economic activity in northern Punjab. The project is also expected to reduce pressure on the busy Rawalpindi–Murree road, particularly during peak tourist seasons.
