Karachi’s famous Shahrah‑e‑Faisal is one of the busiest roads in the city. Thousands of cars, buses, motorcycles, and trucks use it every day to travel between the airport and the city center. But with so many vehicles, traffic discipline has always been a problem. Drivers often change lanes carelessly or drive too slowly in the fast lane, causing frustration and accidents.
To fix this, the Karachi Traffic Police finally started issuing e‑challans for lane violations on this important road. And on the very first day, the results were surprising. According to official numbers, police issued a total of 96 e‑challans. The biggest rule‑breakers were motorcyclists – 43 challans were given to bike riders. Next came Suzuki pick‑ups with 21 challans, followed by cars with 9, and mini trucks with 3. Even large vehicles like big buses, coasters, water tankers, and trucks were not spared.

But here is something interesting. The police did not only fine people for changing lanes wrongly. They also issued challans for driving too slowly in the first lane – the lane meant for fast traffic. This is a common problem on Karachi roads. A slow driver in the fast lane forces everyone else to weave through traffic, which increases the risk of accidents.
All 96 challans were recorded on the stretch from Metropole Hotel to the airport. This is a positive step toward traffic discipline. If drivers know they will be fined – or even get a criminal case – they will think twice before breaking the rules. Let us hope this system continues and makes our roads safer for everyone.
