In a strict enforcement drive, the Lahore City Traffic Police (CTP) has announced that vehicles with unpaid e-challan fines exceeding their market value will be auctioned.
Heavy fines on seized vehicles
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Atar Wahid confirmed that 129 motorcycles have already been impounded, with some owners owing as much as Rs. 374,000 in fines. One seized car alone had accumulated over Rs. 1.5 million in pending challans.
Legal framework in place
This crackdown is supported by a newly approved e-challan legal framework by the provincial cabinet. Vehicles will be auctioned only after public notices, and all revenue generated will be deposited into the government treasury.
Technology-driven enforcement
The CTO highlighted that 60–70% of traffic enforcement in Lahore is now digitized. Violations such as seatbelt non-compliance, mobile phone use while driving, and overspeeding are detected around the clock through Safe City cameras.
Strong precedent
The first phase of auctions will start with motorcycles, sending a strong message to violators about the importance of compliance. Authorities believe this move will significantly improve road discipline and encourage timely payment of fines.
