The Government of Punjab has officially appointed Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif as the Chairman of the Lahore Heritage Revival Board, according to a formal notification issued in July 2026.
Under the Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Act, 2012, Nawaz Sharif will oversee projects aimed at restoring and preserving Lahore’s historic landmarks, cultural sites, and heritage buildings. The board is responsible for ensuring that restoration work maintains the city’s architectural identity while protecting its rich historical and cultural legacy.
The appointment is part of the provincial government’s broader effort to conserve Lahore’s centuries-old heritage and enhance the city’s historical appeal. The board will supervise initiatives focused on the rehabilitation of old neighborhoods, colonial-era structures, and other significant heritage locations, while promoting sustainable urban development.

This is not Nawaz Sharif’s first role related to Lahore’s heritage conservation. In March 2025, he was appointed Patron-in-Chief of the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR). His new position as Chairman of the Lahore Heritage Revival Board further expands his involvement in guiding heritage preservation projects across the provincial capital.
Officials say the initiative aims to safeguard Lahore’s historical character for future generations while encouraging cultural tourism and supporting the restoration of iconic sites that reflect the city’s rich architectural and historical heritage.
The Lahore Heritage Revival Board is expected to play a central role in planning, monitoring, and implementing restoration projects that balance conservation with modern urban needs, ensuring that Lahore’s unique cultural identity continues to be preserved and celebrated.
