PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Pakistan’s Mediation Role in Iran-US Peace Agreement

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran as a historic achievement and expressed hope that it will lead to a lasting peace agreement in the coming months.

Speaking in the National Assembly, the prime minister congratulated the nation and said Pakistan played an important role in bringing both countries to the negotiating table. He stated that Pakistan acted as a mediator and worked sincerely to help reduce tensions between the two sides.

According to Shehbaz Sharif, senior representatives from Iran and the United States recently participated in high-level talks in Bürgenstock, where discussions resulted in a joint statement and the signing of the MoU. He said a ceasefire has already come into effect and technical-level negotiations will continue over the next 60 days.

The prime minister expressed confidence that these discussions would eventually lead to a long-term agreement that could promote peace, stability, and cooperation not only in the region but across the world.

He said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have been widely recognized internationally and have strengthened the country’s image on the global stage. Shehbaz Sharif also informed lawmakers that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was expected to visit Islamabad, where both countries would discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in different sectors.

During his address, the prime minister also spoke about national development and stressed the importance of equal progress in all four provinces. He reiterated that Pakistan’s economic future depends on balanced development across the country and emphasized the need for unity and cooperation to achieve long-term prosperity.

He concluded by expressing optimism about both regional peace efforts and Pakistan’s future development journey.
