Authorities have warned of an increased urban flooding risk in several cities across Punjab and Sindh as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect large parts of Pakistan. Rising water levels in major rivers and reservoirs have prompted disaster management agencies to remain on high alert.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the River Indus is flowing at medium flood levels at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages, while the River Chenab could reach a high flood level at Marala. The department has also warned of possible urban flooding in major cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, if heavy rainfall persists.
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 45 people have lost their lives and 279 others have been injured in rain-related incidents during the current monsoon season. Of the reported fatalities, 33 were caused by building collapses, six by drowning, four by electrocution, and two by lightning strikes.

Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby to deal with any flood-related situations.
The PDMA has stated that the current spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5, with authorities closely monitoring weather conditions and river flows to minimize potential risks to lives and property.
