Ships are being stopped, oil supplies are blocked, and the whole global economy is getting worried. So why not just open the strait by force?
But wait. Let us take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Why is the strait closed in the first place? It did not just shut itself down for no reason. The closure is a direct result of something else. Something much bigger. The war that started when the US and Israel attacked Iran. That was not self-defense. That was not approved by the UN. Most people would call it illegal aggression. So the strait being closed is not the cause of the problem. It is the result. The consequence.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, a well-known Pakistani senator and political analyst, pointed this out very clearly on social media. He praised China for taking a position that is both legally and morally correct. China looked at that one-sided resolution and basically said no. Not because China loves chaos. But because China understands that you cannot fix a problem by only looking at the symptom while ignoring the disease.
You cannot say “stop closing the strait” without also saying “stop the war that made them close it.” That is just common sense. But in international politics, common sense is often the first thing to disappear. Mushahid used a very blunt phrase. He said China is calling a spade a spade. Stop the war first. Then talk about the strait.
And honestly, he has a point. How many times have we seen powerful countries break something and then ask everyone else to help clean up the mess? They start a fight, and then act surprised when the other side fights back. Then they run to the UN demanding permission to use even more force. It is a pattern. A very old and very tired pattern.
China is not buying it this time. And Mushahid Hussain is cheering them on. He said “enough of hypocrisy.” Those are strong words. But sometimes strong words are exactly what is needed. Because when you look at what is actually happening on the ground, it is hard to argue with him.
Iran did not ask for this war. The strait did not close itself. And a UN resolution that only looks at one side of the story is not a real solution. It is just a tool. A tool to make one side look like the good guy and the other side look like the bad guy. China saw through that. And for that, Mushahid says, well done.
Let us hope more countries have the courage to speak the same truth. Stop the war first. Then we can talk. That is not complicated. That is just honest.
