IG Punjab Usman Anwar Replaced, Rao Abdul Karim Appointed as New Inspector General

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has been removed from his post, according to official sources.

Sources in the Punjab government confirmed that Rao Abdul Karim has been appointed as the new IG Punjab, replacing Dr Usman Anwar.

Meanwhile, federal government sources indicated that Dr Usman Anwar is likely to be appointed as Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

According to provincial government sources, several senior police officers were considered for the position of IG Punjab. These included IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kaimani, and Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Waseem Sial.

Reports further stated that Dr Usman Anwar was appointed as IG Punjab on January 24, 2023, and served in the position for more than three years.

The official notification regarding the new appointment is expected to be issued soon.
