Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that 2026 will be a year of major development projects for the city, with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation planning to spend between Rs 70 billion and Rs 75 billion on infrastructure improvements.
Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony of the Azeempura Flyover, the mayor said the project aims to solve long-standing traffic problems faced by people traveling from Shahrah-e-Bhutto to the Airport and Qayyumabad. He stated that the flyover will be completed within 100 days, which will significantly improve traffic flow in the area.
Mayor Wahab also announced that the road leading to Shama will be repaired alongside the flyover construction to ensure smoother connectivity for commuters.
According to the mayor, the Azeempura Flyover project will cost around Rs 1.5 billion, and construction work has already started. In addition, the city government has planned repairs and reconstruction of 26 roads in Malir 15 and Memon Goth, while work is already ongoing on three roads.

He further revealed that the tendering process for the road from Jinnah Avenue to Begum Khurshid Road has also been completed, which means construction work on that route will begin soon.
The mayor emphasized that Karachi needs strong and modern infrastructure to support its growing population and economic activity. He added that multiple government bodies are working together on development projects, with KDA handling its own projects while the transport ministry is also carrying out separate initiatives.
These projects are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and strengthen Karachi’s overall infrastructure, making daily commuting easier for thousands of residents.
