The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made it easier for Pakistani citizens to update the address on their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), especially for those living in rented homes.
According to a public awareness video released by NADRA, tenants can now change both their temporary and permanent addresses by submitting a few required documents, making the process simpler and more convenient.
For citizens who want to update their temporary address, NADRA requires a copy of the rental agreement along with a copy of a recent electricity bill for the rented property. These documents help verify the applicant’s current place of residence.
If a tenant wishes to register the rented house as their permanent address on the CNIC, additional documentation is required. Along with the rental agreement and electricity bill, the applicant must provide an affidavit from the property owner. The affidavit must confirm that the property has been rented out and that the owner has no objection to the tenant using the address as their permanent residence.

For homeowners, the process is even simpler. Citizens who own the property only need to present the original ownership documents at the NADRA office. Officials will scan the documents on the spot, and applicants are not required to submit photocopies, making the process faster and more efficient.
NADRA says these changes have been introduced to reduce unnecessary paperwork and provide greater convenience to the public. The updated procedure is expected to help thousands of citizens who frequently need to update their residential address due to relocation or other personal reasons.
The authority has advised applicants to ensure all documents are complete before visiting a NADRA registration center to avoid delays in processing.
