Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum) Ali Pervaiz Malik has defended Pakistan’s current fuel pricing policy, saying the government is working to provide relief to the public while fulfilling its international financial commitments. According to the minister, the government has reduced petrol prices by Rs. 155 per litre and diesel prices by Rs. 200 per litre under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ali Pervaiz Malik rejected claims that the government is giving special treatment to any particular sector. He said the fuel pricing system is designed to benefit the entire country and is based on global oil market trends rather than political decisions.
The minister also shared the latest Platts international benchmark prices for petrol and diesel, explaining that the government closely monitors global fuel prices before making any decision. He emphasized that whenever international oil prices fall, the government aims to pass the maximum possible relief to consumers.
However, Malik noted that fuel prices cannot be reduced without considering Pakistan’s international obligations and economic commitments. He said the government must maintain a balance between providing public relief and ensuring financial stability.
The recent cuts in petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are expected to reduce transportation costs, lower business expenses, and provide some financial relief to millions of citizens. Lower fuel prices may also help control inflation by reducing the cost of moving goods across the country.
The government has assured the public that it will continue reviewing international oil prices regularly. If global fuel prices remain favorable, more relief could be announced in the coming weeks.
