Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a review of the performance of federal ministers and ministries as the government considers possible changes to the federal cabinet and senior bureaucracy.
According to sources, the Prime Minister’s Office has requested performance reports from federal ministries and divisions covering the period from February 2024 to date. The reports will be used to assess the performance of cabinet members and determine their future roles.
Shehbaz Sharif is also holding individual meetings with federal ministers to review their progress and performance. The assessment is expected to be completed this month, after which decisions on a possible cabinet reshuffle could be taken.
Sources said ministers of state who have performed strongly may be considered for promotion to federal minister, while changes among senior bureaucrats are also being discussed.
Before making final decisions, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to consult PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, with both performance evaluations and political considerations likely to influence the outcome.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has called for a more effective evaluation of cabinet members and suggested conducting a third-party audit of ministry performance.
Reports from two institutions have already reached the Prime Minister, according to sources.
The potential reshuffle could therefore bring significant changes to the federal government, depending on the outcome of the ongoing performance review.
