Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched a new AI-powered monitoring system that can automatically detect hazards such as open manholes, overflowing garbage bins, and smoke, and instantly alert the authorities.
The announcement comes after a tragic incident in which a seven-year-old boy lost his life after falling into an uncovered manhole on the Kahror Pacca–Lodhran Highway — prompting the government to take immediate technological action.

The new system, called “Talk to Camera,” has been developed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). It allows officers to search the entire network of surveillance cameras simply by using natural language commands, making it faster and easier to locate threats.
After successful pilot tests in Lahore and Sheikhupura, the government has now started installing the AI system across the whole province. Officials say the technology will help prevent accidents, improve urban safety, and ensure quicker response times.
