The Punjab government has announced a major expansion of its social welfare initiative, the “Dhee Rani Program,” aimed at providing financial assistance to underprivileged families at the time of marriage. Under the approval of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the marriage grant has been increased from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 200,000, while the number of beneficiaries has been expanded from 3,000 to 5,000 couples.
For the 2025–26 financial year, the Punjab government has allocated a total budget of Rs. 1.70 billion for the program. Officials stated that this increase reflects the government’s commitment to supporting women and easing the financial burden on families during marriage ceremonies.
According to official documents, Rs. 50 million has been allocated for advertising and public awareness to ensure that eligible families across the province are informed about the program. In addition, Rs. 8 million has been earmarked for the issuance of Bank of Punjab cards, through which the financial assistance will be disbursed directly to beneficiaries in a transparent and efficient manner.

The government has also planned to clear vendor payments worth Rs. 660 million during the fiscal year. These payments are related to services and arrangements provided under the program, ensuring smooth implementation and timely settlement of outstanding dues.
Officials confirmed that the Finance Department rejected requests for additional funding, emphasizing that the program will operate strictly within the approved budget framework. This approach aims to maintain fiscal discipline while maximizing the program’s impact.
The expansion of the Dhee Rani Program is expected to benefit more women across Punjab, particularly those from low-income households. By increasing both the grant amount and the number of beneficiaries, the government hopes to strengthen social support systems and promote dignity and financial stability for brides and their families.
Public response to the announcement has been largely positive, with many welcoming the enhanced support as a meaningful step toward social welfare and women empowerment in the province.
