The Punjab government has taken a major decision by assigning a new responsibility to the Crime Control Department (CCD) to take action against organized groups involved in online and digital crimes.
According to reports, the decision was made in response to a sharp rise in online fraud and electronic crimes, which have resulted in widespread financial losses for citizens. Under the new mandate, the CCD will now actively crack down on criminals who use online platforms and electronic devices to carry out fraud, extortion, and other illegal activities.
A CCD spokesperson stated that innocent citizens are being deprived of their lifetime savings through online scams. Salaried individuals and members of the business community have become easy targets for these criminals. The spokesperson further revealed that even beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) have been defrauded.

The CCD also highlighted that criminals are involved in short-term kidnappings for ransom, often conducted through online coordination, and in many cases, victims do not even register complaints due to fear or lack of awareness.
Under the new directive, the CCD will take strict and comprehensive action against those involved in online fraud. Legal proceedings will also be initiated to seize properties of organized criminal networks involved in digital and online scams.
Officials emphasized that the objective of this move is to protect the public’s hard-earned money, dismantle organized cybercrime groups, and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
The decision is being seen as a significant step by the Punjab government to address evolving crime trends and strengthen enforcement against online and electronic financial crimes across the province.
